Analysis of the Manufacturing Process Quality and Sustainable Practices in Plastic Products of SMEs in Guayaquil.
Main Article Content
Abstract
The plastics manufacturing industry in Ecuador plays a very important role in the country's economy, with Guayaquil accounting for the largest percentage of companies in this productive sector. This article studies the status of 11 small and medium-sized companies in the city dedicated to the manufacturing of plastics products. The analysis focused on quality management of the manufacturing process and the use of sustainable practices. A survey of these companies determined their level of compliance with the implementation of performance indicators, certifications, technical standards, environmental responsibility, and senior management's commitment to quality.
The results showed that while companies have made progress in adopting quality management systems, there is still a lack of implementation of sustainability practices and compliance with environmental regulations, with only 36.36% doing so. It was also evident that there is a statistically significant relationship between implementing good quality procedures and business performance. However, no relationship could be proven between senior management commitment and the reduction of non-quality costs.
Finally, it can be noted that organizational development depends greatly on the efficiency with which quality and sustainability management practices are implemented, making companies more competitive and enabling them to access new markets.
